It was a dreary day, and all Sally wanted to do was go to her room and bury her head under the covers. She had a midterm tomorrow and she had been struggling in class, but she didn’t want to talk to anyone about it.

So she walked to her room, hoping that by the time she got there, her mind would be clearer and she could think of a way to bail on the test.

She barely made it to her room before she collapsed on the bed, burying her face in her pillow.

“Hey, you okay?”

Sally’s head shot up. There was her best friend, Jenna, standing in the doorway, looking concerned.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just tired,” Sally lied, and she meant it. She had been a wreck all day long, and she just wanted to crawl under the covers and hibernate for a few days.

Jenna hesitated for a moment, but then she must have decided that wasn’t the best idea, because she walked away without saying anything else.

Sally lay there for a few more minutes, trying to gather her thoughts, but all she could do was stare at the ceiling.

Then, without warning, her brain kicked into gear and she started thinking about her midterm.
