My mom always told me that one day, I would find myself on an adventure. Growing up, I always thought that adventure meant going on some big, epic journey to some faraway land. But as I got older, I realized that true adventure is found in the smallest of moments. And that is exactly what happened to me one summer day.

I was minding my own business, sitting in my backyard, when I saw a little girl walking her dog. She was so small and cute, and as she walked by, she dropped a lemon sugar cookie into my trash can. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life, and I knew there and then that I was going to find out more about this little girl and her adventures.

That day, I started following her everywhere she went. I watched as she explored a abandoned asylum, braved the horrors of the dark labyrinth, and became the best climbing partner ever for the youngest member of the parkour team. Eventually, I pieced together her story. She was only 8 years old, and she was on a journey to find her parents, who had abandoned her when she was a baby.

But that wasn’t the only adventure she was involved in. Every day, she made a batch of lemon sugar cookies and gave them to the kids at the local park. And every time, she got a response like, “You are the best pastry chef ever!” or, “I have never had a lemon sugar cookie this good.”

Even though she was unknown to most people, her simple act of giving back made her a hero to everyone she met. And that is what adventure is all about—finding our purpose and contribution to the world. As long as we remember to do the things that make us happy, no matter how small they may seem, we are on our way to an amazing adventure.

So, remember, if you see an 8-year-old girl with a big smile on her face walking her dog, stop and give her a lemon sugar cookie. It might just be the small thing that leads you on the biggest adventure of your life.
